Trophy Elk Hunts

Challenging Elk Hunts Hunting at Scenic View Ranch in Northeast Iowa is the closest experience you will find to hunting wild elk out west. Along with the bluffs, caves, timber and brush the ranch provides excellent forage and cover for wildlife. Yellow River, the fastest river in Iowa, is becoming one of the greatest trout streams in the country and the DNR stocks thousands of Brownies right on the ranch each year. Nothing beats taking the kids inner tubing on a hot July day for a couple of hours (until their lips turn blue), and not even leave the ranch.

A typical elk hunt starts the night before when we tour the preserve and decide what class bull you want to take home. We have had bulls weighing up to 1180 pounds and scoring up to 450. We don’t shoot bulls less than a nice 6 X 6 and they start at $3,000. We then plan out our strategy and customize your hunt for the next morning after Lloyd’s famous oatmeal breakfast. You’ll need it.

You might have seen our ranch on Permission to Hunt Ultimate Outdoors T.V. show when Wheelin Sportsman and Aaron Tippin, (the chart-toppin country singer) hunted a big bull this last September. In the December 2005 Ultimate Outdoors issue Eric McClenathan had this to say “After we went across the river, it seemed like we went into a huge wilderness full of fields and timber. There was wildlife everywhere – deer, and elk, too. Truth was I was impressed with the size of the ranch and every thing it had to offer. I was in awe of the size of the elk I saw.”

After January we will hunt a few elk cows and they start at $700 each or $650 for groups of 3 – 5 hunters, and $600 for a group of 6 or more. Book early because they go fast. Call for lodging options.
October 2007, Mike Hardin of Wapello, Iowa took this nice bull in the rain. His wife, Janet and their Labrador mix dog-child came along for the fun. Mike got really close to a couple bulls using a stand.

Look at this Big Bull !
Larry Gonzalez of Gonzalez Cutting Horses, Elgin, Texas
took this 8 X 9 400+ bull in September 2007.
Larry enjoyed watching the bulls and his bull was very aggressive. Lloyd said it was an excellent shot.
Todd Heinrich from Grain Valley, MO,
took this nice bull with his bow.

Scott Tenute is from Winfield, IL. He hunted this nice
bull with his father and Todd Heinrich this September 2007. He noticed there weren't any pesky mosquitoes or chiggers.

Richard Tenute from Houston, MN was here
in September 07 to hunt this big bull. These guys
are great sportsmen and fun to be around.

Congratulations to Wally Ewoldt and his daughter Megan for hunting this nice bull elk. Wally is from Davenport, Iowa. He and Mel Hintz (Calamus, IA) have built a couple of awesome heated blinds for our Ranch. Thanks fellas, you do great work and thanks for sharing the trout you caught.

Where are you going to hang this big brute, Larry Gonzales? This bull had some back scratchers! This was a great shot with a bow. Thank you for the wonderful vacation at your cutting horse ranch, Larry & Becci.
Dick Bastyr from LaCrosse, WI hunted this bull elk. Dick is a fun guy to visit and a regular fisherman on the River. Thanks for all the fish you gave us.

Elk "Princess" trained by David Skipworth of Forest   Hills Farm, Muscatine, Iowa. David bought this  orphan cow from us and bottled her with goats   milk. He is a great horse and zebra trainer, too.
  Very Cool.
